Pinyin Editor
Instructions
This is an editor for pinyin accent notation, not an IME for chinese characters.
Sequences like wo3 get automatically replaced by wǒ as you type.
Vowel order is respected, so jiao4 will only place an accent on the a: jiào; but the editor has no awareness of which pinyin syllables exist, so even nonsensical syllables like bass3 will be replaced: bǎss.
You can type another number to replace an accent, and you can use 0 to delete accents: wō3 → wǒ, wǒ0 → wo.
Editor
Bookmarklet
The editor works on any HTML textarea element that doesn't have too much of it's own input handling and therefore lends itself nicely to be a bookmarklet. most notably this means moodle answer (not post, those are rich text editors) fields should work.
In case you haven't used bookmarklets before, they work like this: right-click and bookmark the link below. Then you are able to use the editor on any website with a textarea by clicking on the saved bookmark
Notabene: whenever you navigate to a new website you need to click the bookmark again.
Important: do not click the link directly. Right-Click → Save as Bookmark instead.
Feedback & Compatibility
This bookmarklet & editor was tested on relatively up-to-date firefox. Other modern browsers should work just fine. If you encounter an issue, please send me an E-Mail and tell me if just the bookmarklet is broken (or if this editor is broken as well) and which browser you use.
